Every Horde Invasion run in Clash of Critters ends at a boss, not a wave. LDShop breaks down the full Boss Zobo roster, the element that counters each one, the mechanic that actually kills runs, and the fastest answer for it. The Season 1 bosses, the Laser and Sandworm problems, and the chips that turn boss waves into free kills all follow.
All Horde Invasion Boss Zobos and Their Counters

Season 1 also added Laser, Paradox, Harpoon, Totem, Chef, Golf, Hydro and Captain Zobos. Their elements are not documented yet, so read the lane in the run rather than trusting a fixed list.
Several of these bosses reuse campaign attack patterns. If you have already worked through a fight like the Chapter 14 boss, the summon and shield behaviour here will feel familiar.
Horde Invasion Boss Wave Order in Season 1
A full round is now 25 waves and 750 kills, spread across four difficulties. You unlock the next difficulty only after clearing the one before it.
- A boss carrying a chip spawns every five waves, marked by a chip icon above its head.
- Each player holds three chips, so a duo carries six.
- The leaderboard ranks difficulty first. Ten kills on Difficulty 4 beat 745 kills on Difficulty 3.
- The rotation is less predictable than the old format, so element coverage beats memorised wave numbers.
Cover at least three of the five elements between both players before you plan anything else. For the event schedule, reward tiers and full mode rules, our Horde Invasion guide covers the setup side in detail.

How to Beat the Laser Zobo in Horde Invasion
Laser Zobo is the newest problem boss. Its cast deletes a lane, and trying to out-damage it usually fails.
Three answers work:
Mower route. If a lawn mower sits in that lane, open the path before the laser animation starts. The boss walks in, the mower fires, and trailing Zobos die in the same corridor.
Health exchange. Without a mower, thin the small Zobos first. Then open the lane and spend one base health point as the boss walks through.
Animation lock. A Level 5 Owl teleports enemies backward. A Level 7 Beetle drags them into a vortex. Place both in the boss lane and the cast never completes. Your partner's Beetle counts toward this too.

How to Beat the Volcano Zobo and Its Lava Explosion
Volcano Zobo revives into smaller forms several times, and its explosion reaches your back row. Opening a path is still the cleanest answer. One base health point beats losing three invested Tatari.
When you must fight it:
- Underdog chip. Your countered element now counts as countering. A tank can face the lava safely with it. Without it, do not try.
- Knockback. Stormlion and a Level 7 Seaswirl push it back. Distance alone removes most of the explosion damage.
- Weak debuff. Fire Cat or Seaswirl keeps your frontline alive through the burst.
- Beetle placement. Put the Beetle beside the lane, never in front. A vortex spawned ahead of the Volcano drags it into your formation and speeds up the explosion. Placed to the side, it stalls the boss and buys two extra detonations before anything valuable is hit.
That last detail costs more runs than any other positioning error in Clash of Critters. A dedicated Water frontliner also helps here, and the Snowcub guide explains how to build one that holds a Fire boss lane.

How to Beat the Sandworm Zobo
Sandworm is the tankiest late target and often spawns outside normal attack range. Melee units simply cannot reach it.
|
Situation |
Answer |
|---|---|
|
Worm sits outside range |
Pull it in with Maskfry |
|
No puller available |
Open a path so a mower runs out and takes 50% of its health |
|
Reliable stall |
Level 7 Beetle placed one block away, so the vortex reaches it |
|
Worm drags your back row |
Waveflutter Sleep or a temporary Level 5 Sunflower stun |
|
Straight damage race |
Mantis and other Grass hitters |
The drag works both ways. Experienced players let the Sandworm pull a chosen buffer into the front row, since some units cannot be placed there normally. Decide before the wave starts whether you want that pull.
The Beetle also wants a support beside it to stay useful through long waves. Ringtail pairs well, since its healing and attack buff land on the same Rock damage dealer you rely on for boss pressure.

How to Beat Clown, Paradox and Manager Zobo
These three punish slow reactions rather than weak formations.
- Clown Zobo flies over your units until roughly 70% health. Ranged damage grounds it. Left airborne, it crosses every lane and wrecks your layout.
- Paradox Zobo locks onto one Tatari and beams it down. It is squishy, and Grass damage removes it fast.
- Manager Zobo summons Clerks. Damage to the summons also damages the boss, so area effects beat single-target hits here.

Evolve these units before you pour upgrades into them. Evolved forms bring better stats without changing the skill plan, and our evolution priority guide sets out which lines deserve resources first. If your roster is short on the pieces that matter here, a Clash of Critters top up can help you fill the gaps before the next season push.

Horde Invasion Boss Mistakes That End Runs
- Opening a path with more than nine small Zobos still alive behind the boss.
- Leaving a Level 7 Sunflower active during a mower plan. Its stun freezes the Zobos you wanted to send in.
- Moving your support after timing its invincibility window.
- Spending every energizer early, leaving nothing for an emergency blocker.
- Duplicating your partner's supports instead of covering a missing element.
Conclusion
Boss knowledge carries Horde Invasion further than raw power does. Read the boss, check its counter element, and decide early whether you are killing it or walking it through your formation. Learn the open path exchange, keep the Beetle on the correct side, and treat Lawn Care as a boss button rather than a safety net. Those habits move most Clash of Critters players from mid-wave losses to deep, repeatable runs.
