Durin Overview

Durin

Rarity: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ | Element: Pyro | Weapon: Sword

Durin is 5-Star Pyro sword user from Mondstadt who scales on ATK and gains CRIT DMG on ascension. He mainly functions as an off-field Pyro damage dealer, but can also provide team buffs or enhance his own damage depending on his state, which can be switch by using Skill or BA.

Durin Kit Analysis & Rotation

Pressing Durin’s Elemental Skill will allow him to undergo the Essential Transmutation, which can let him choose between two different states: White (Confirmation of Purify) or Dark (Denial of Darkness). Entering White deals an instance of AoE Pyro damage, while entering Dark deals single-target Pyro damage. Both states restore Energy.

The state determines whether Durin focuses on AoE or single-target damage, and affects which buffs he provides. His Elemental Burst delivers an initial AoE or single-target hit, then continues dealing off-field Pyro damage for 20 seconds. If he isn't already in a state, the Burst defaults to the White effect. The Pyro application is periodic, similar to Xiangling or Mavuika, but slower than Xiangling. In Dark mode, the Pyro application interval becomes 1.25 seconds.

Durin’s first passive alters based on the state used when casting his Burst.

If White was active: after the party triggers Burning, Overloaded, Pyro Swirl, or Pyro Crystallize, the enemy’s Pyro RES and the reaction element’s RES are reduced by 20% for 6 seconds.

If Dark was active: Durin’s own Vaporize and Melt damage increases by 40%.

His second passive increases the base damage of his Burst by 1% per 100 ATK, up to 25% at 2500 ATK. So these two passives relate closely with his Burst.

Durin also has a Witch’s Eve Rite passive. This is pretty similar to Moonsign passives, where being a Nod-Krai character allows you to increase your party's Moonsign level and gain some special effect.

After completing a quest, Durin becomes a Magic character. Other Mondstadt characters also receive this tag. With two Magic characters, the effects of Durin’s first passive are enhanced by 75%. The RES reduction becomes 35%, and his Vaporize/Melt bonus becomes 70%.

Rotation:

  • AoE/Support: E + E + Q (Purity form)
  • Single-Target/Burst: E + Normal Attack + Q (Darkness form)

Durin Talent Priority

Based on the above analysis of Durin’s kit, the Skill Priority is quite clear, the Normal Attack is not important, so we can ignore it. You should make sure upgrade Elemental Skill and Burst to level 10.

Durin Artifacts

Emblem of Severed Fate

Emblem of Severed Fate

  • 2-Piece: Energy Recharge +20%
  • 4-Piece: Increases Elemental Burst DMG by 25% of Energy Recharge. A maximum of 75% bonus DMG can be obtained this way.

Durin is a character who can be played in teams where you trigger transformative reactions such as Burning or Overload, or in teams where you trigger amplifying reactions. But his best artifact options stay consitent regardless of his state and team. The current best -in-slot artifact is Emblem of Severed Fate.

It increases Burst damage based on your Energy Recharge stat. The 20% Energy Recharge helps smooth out his rotations, especially in teams where he’s the only Pyro unit or the Energy Generation is low.

Noblesse Oblige

Noblesse Oblige

  • 2-Piece: Elemental Burst DMG +20%
  • 4-Piece: Using an Elemental Burst increases all party members' ATK by 20% for 12s. This effect cannot stack.

Noblesse Oblige works well on Durin because it enhances both his personal damage and his role as a team buffer. Since Durin’s kit is heavily centered around his Burst, the 2-piece bonus directly strengthens the part of his rotation that matters most. The 4-piece effect gives the entire team a 20% ATK boost whenever Durin bursts, which fits perfectly with his off-field playstyle. This makes Noblesse especially strong in teams without a dedicated Noblesse holder or in lineups with ATK-scaling main DPS characters.

Crimson Witch of Flames

Crimson Witch of Flames

  • 2-Piece: Pyro DMG Bonus +15%
  • 4-Piece: Increases Overloaded, Burning, and Burgeon DMG by 40%. Increases Vaporize and Melt DMG by 15%. Using an Elemental Skill increases the 2-Piece Set Bonus by 50% for 10s. Max 3 stacks.

It is strong option for Durin with its effect. The 2-piece Pyro DMG Bonus is already valuable for boosting all of his off-field Burst ticks, but the 4-piece effect becomes even better in teams where Durin is helping to drive reactions such as Vaporize, Melt, Overloaded, or Burning.

Artifact Stats

Durin generally doesn’t need much Energy Recharge, as his Skill can restore up to 30 Energy at talent level 9, normally 100–120% ER is enough. If he’s the only Pyro, he may require more.

Durin Weapon Recommendations

Choosing the right weapon can significantly enhance Durin's combat effectiveness and team synergy:

Best Choice

Athame Artis

Athame Artis

Rarity: 5-star | Base ATK: 608 | CRIT Rate: 33.1%

Effect: CRIT DMG from Elemental Bursts is increased by 16% / 20% / 24% / 28% / 32% . When an Elemental Burst hits an opponent, gain the Blade of the Daylight Hours effect: ATK is increased by 20% / 25% / 30% / 35% / 40% . Nearby active party members other than the equipping character have their ATK increased by 16% / 20% / 24% / 28% / 32% for 3s. Additionally, when the party possesses Hexerei: Secret Rite effects, the effects of Blade of the Daylight Hours are increased by an additional 75%. This effect can be triggered even if the equipping character is off-field.

It is practically tailor-made for Durin, enhancing exactly what his kit relies on most. The weapon’s innate CRIT Rate and extra CRIT DMG for Bursts immediately strengthen his core output. Once his Burst lands a hit, granting Durin a sizable ATK% boost, which directly improves his Burst’s scaling. What makes this weapon truly shine, however, is how its effects ramp up when the team contains Hexerei characters, a condition Durin naturally fulfills. With Hexerei synergy active, all of the weapon’s ATK buffs are amplified by an additional 75%, significantly increasing both Durin’s personal damage and the team’s overall output.

5-star Alternative Choices

Primordial Jade Cutter

Primordial Jade Cutter

Rarity: 5-star | Base ATK: 542 | CRIT Rate : 44.1%

Effect: HP increased by 20% / 25% / 30% / 35% / 40% . Additionally, provides an ATK Bonus based on 1.2% / 1.5% / 1.8% / 2.1% / 2.4% of the wielder's Max HP.

The versatile sword suitable for many Sword-wielding characters. Its low Base ATK is compensated by its high CRIT Rate, and its passive provides additional ATK based on Max HP.

Mistsplitter Reforged

Mistsplitter Reforged

Rarity:4-satr | Base ATK: 674 | CRIT DMG: 44.1%

It works very well on Durin because it gives him high base ATK to reach his 2500 ATK threshold, and a large amount of CRIT DMG which pairs perfectly with his Burst. For its passive, Durin naturally maintains the Mistsplitter's Emblem stacks without any effort, his enhanced Normal Attack, his Burst, and even just having less than full energy all trigger the weapon’s effects. This means he consistently gets a strong Elemental DMG bonus throughout his entire rotation.

4-star Alternatives (R5)

Wolf-Fang

Wolf-Fang

Rarity: 4-satr |Base ATK: 510 | CRIT Rate: 27.6%

For 4-star weapon, you can go for Wolf-Fang from the Battle Pass. It gives him 27.6% CRIT Rate and at R5 gives him 32% Burst damage and up to an extra 16% CRIT Rate.

IMG_256

Lion’s Roar

Rarity: 4-satr |Base ATK: 510 | ATK: 41.3%

Lion’s Roar isn’t bad either. It gives Attack as your substat and at R5 an extra 36% damage to opponents affected by Pyro or Electro. It will be team-specific though, so it won’t work in teams where you’re trying to Melt or Vape with him because the enemies won’t be affected by Pyro.

Durin Signature Weapon vs. Constellations

  • Signature Weapon: Athame Artis

About 20% boost with no Hexerei and 35% boost with Hexerei. His weapon provides 608 base ATK and 33.1% CRIT Rate. It boost Elemental Burst’s DMG by 16%, Durin gets 20% ATK boost and allies gets 16% ATK boost. This effect will get 75% increase when your team have another Hexerei Member.

  • C1: Adamah's Redemption

About 10% boost for Support ability, 30% boost for personal damage output.

In white form, his Burst will give allies 20 stacks buff. When they deal Normal ATK, Charged ATK, Plunging ATK, Skill or Burst DMG, 1 stack of buff will be consumed to increased the DMG dealt by 60% of Durin’s ATK.

In Black form, the buff only boost Durin’s Burst DMG by 150% of Durin’s ATK and it consumes 2 stacks of buff.

  • C2: Unground Visions

About 15% boost. When an ally deals Elemental DMG, all allies gain 50% DMG boost for corresponding Element.

  • C4: Emanare's Source

About 15% boost for Durin’s personal damage. Durin’s Burst DMG increased by 40% and there’s a 30% chance that C1’s buff will not be consumed. This is especially good for teammate who can consume C1 buff frequently.

  • C6: Dual Birth

About 19% boost for support ability, and 50% for DPS ability. Durin’s Burst will ignore 30% of enemy’s DEF. In white form, Durin decreased enemy’s DEF by 30%. In Black form, Durin ignore an additional 40% of enemy’s DEF.

If you want to build Durin as a off-field support, C0 is enough, then consider C1 when you got enough primos. If you want to build Durin as a DPS, then it’s best to start with C1R0. So, the pulling priority for Durin is C0R0 > C1R0 > C2R0 > C2R1 > C6R1.
