Wanwan’s role and playstyle

Wanwan is a Gold Lane marksman with high mobility, poke potential and late-game carry capabilities. She relies on her attack speed to enhance her passive, Tiger Pace, which allows short dashes with each basic attack. She is very good with evasive movement, crowd control, cleanse and the ability to shred tanks and squishy heroes all the same in the late game.

But also, beware of her vulnerability in the early game, item dependency and susceptibility to burst damage or suppression skills. She has been reported to have a high win rate of 59.81% in 2025. Wanwan fits perfectly into the Gold Lane meta compared to Beatrix or Claude because of her mobility. She does however, have a high learning curve because her weakness targeting needs learning to be countered.

Wanwan’s skills

Passive: Tiger Pace

  • When Wanwan damages an enemy hero, their weaknesses are exposed for 5 seconds, increasing the damage dealt by 12%.
  • Basic attacks trigger a short dash, making her highly agile in prolonged fights.

Skill 1: Swallow’s Path

  • Wanwan throws a Fire Swallow that deals 120- 220 physical damage (+40 Total Physical Attack) and triggers Tiger Pace.
  • Every 0.5 seconds, swallow daggers return and deal 60-120 physical damage (+65 Total Physical Attack), slowing enemies by 30% for 1.5 seconds. Two hits stun for 0.5 seconds.
  • Use this skill for poking, zoning and bush checking in the laning phases.

Skill 2: Needles in Flowers

  • Wanwan clears all CC effects, triggers Tiger Pace and deals 150-250 physical damage (+60% Total physical Attack) to nearby enemies.
  • This skill acts as an in-built Purify, allowing offensive battle spells like Inspire. Use this skill to escape CC or engage safely offensively.

Skill 3: Crossbow of Tang

  • This skill activates only after hitting all enemy weaknesses, firing arrows for 2.5 seconds, each dealing 60 physical damage (+35% Total Physical Attack).
  • If the target dies, Wanwan switches targets, gaining 30% attack speed and extending duration by 1 second, which is 3x more.
  • She is untargetable and invincible during the ultimate, with 100% movement speed.

Best build for Wanwan

Let’s start with core items. It is important that we focus on attack speed, physical attack, movement speed and lifesteal. Here is a list of the items and how they are useful:

  • Corrosion Scythe: It provides attack speed, physical attack and movement speed. Using this with passive helps in hitting enemy weaknesses and triggering the ultimate early.
  • Swift boots: This boosts attack speed and movement speed for better mobility.
  • Demon Hunter Sword: This deals bonus damage based on enemy HP, perfect for shredding tanks during the ultimate.
  • Golden Staff: synergises with Wanwan’s passive for frequent procs, boosting DPS in long fights.
  • Windtalker: Increases attack speed and crit chance, enhancing poke and team fight damage.
  • Rose Gold meteor: Offers a shield when HP is low, improving survivability against burst damage.

Let’s move on to situational items:

  • Malefic Roar: for armour penetration against tanky enemies.
  • Wind of Nature: immunity to physical damage for 2 seconds, countering enemy marksmen or assassins.
  • Immortality: Provides a revive for late-game team fights.

Emblem setups are very important. They aren’t unique to each character, but they can be customised to best suit your requirements. Each emblem setup has three tiers of talents, two standard and one core. Here we list the best emblem setup for Wanwan:

  • Swift: +10% attack speed for early mobility.
  • Tenacity: Bonus defences below 40% HP for survivability.
  • Weakness Finder: Slows enemy movement and attack speed with basic attacks.

Skill Combos and Gameplay Tips

Basic Combo: Skill 1 – Basic attack – Skill 2 –Skill 3

Use Swallow’s Path to poke and unveil weaknesses, follow with basic attacks to hit front weaknesses, activate needles in Flowers to cleanse CC or deal AoE damage, then unleash Crossbow of Tang once all weaknesses are hit.

Surprise Combo: Hide in the bush – Skill 1 – basic attacks – Skill 3

Ambush enemies with Swallow’s Path, hit weaknesses with basic attacks and trigger the ultimate for burst damage.

Defence combo: skill 2 – skill 1 – basic attacks – skill 3

Use this combo to avoid early game ganks while still dealing damage.

Gameplay tips to enhance your experience

  • Early game: try to focus on farming safely, using Skill 1 to poke and check Bushes. Avoid aggressive trades owing to Wanwan’s early game weakness.
  • Mid game: With Corrosion Scythe and Demon Hunter Sword, join team fights, staying behind Tanks/support. Use skill 2 to escape CC.
  • Late game: Position yourself carefully in team fights, using mobility to kite and ultimate to finish off high-priority targets.
  • Prioritise skill 1 for poke and stun potential, then skill 3 for ultimate damage.
  • Use skill 2 reactively to counter CC, not preemptively.
  • Maintain distance from enemy initiators and assassins.

Counter Heroes and Strategies

Here are some of the best heroes to counter Wanwan and her skills and skill combos:

  1. Granger: Granger has high early game damage, which exploits Wanwan’s weakness, her laning phase, since she’s very vulnerable early game. Any aggressive play before level 4 can be used to shut her down.
  2. Franco: Franco’s ultimate, Bloody Hunt, suppresses Wanwan, preventing her from using her skill 2 cleanse and mobility. Coordinate with your team for kills here.
  3. Kaja: Kaja’s divine judgement suppresses Wanwan, which interrupts her combos and ultimate, breaking the flow required to succeed.
  4. Selena: Selena’s Abyssal Arrow stuns Wanwan early, disrupting farming and mobility.
  5. Natalia: Natalia’s invisibility and silence prevent Wanwan from reacting or triggering her ultimate.

But heroes aren’t the only way to counter the “Meta-ness” of Wanwan. While picking items for your build, you could pick the following items which work very well against Wanwan. It would be a good idea to add them to your build since Wanwan’s win rate is high, resulting in a high pick rate as well. You can get these items easily using Mobile Legends Diamonds. The best platform to make the top up of diamonds is LDShop; it lets players top up for less and it is a great way to save money.

  • Dominance Ice: It reduces Wanwan’s attack speed, slowing her dashes and ultimate scaling.
  • Winter Crown: It avoids Wanwan’s ultimate by freezing her.
  • Twilight Armour/Antique Cuirass: It reduces Wanwan’s damage output.

The only thing we have left to discuss now, is the way we would strategise our games beforehand against her.

When playing against Wanwan

  • Gank Wanwan early in the game to delay her core items. Wanwan is weak early game, and it is the best time to attack her and render her powerless.
  • Use heroes that employ suppression or burst damage to bypass her mobility and skill 2 cleanse.
  • Build a physical defence and attack speed reduction items to mitigate her late-game threat.

Conclusion

Wanwan is unbeatable during the late-game phase in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, and if her skills are combined properly, a rank-up is inevitable. She is unmatched in her mobility and damage potential. It is very important to master her skill combos, positioning, and item builds because they might not seem to be very big steps, but brick by brick, they can build a strong wall of defence, and sometimes, even in offence, it is important to know how to defend.

It is important to practice her mechanics, especially owing to her early game weaknesses and be able to find ways to protect yourself against early game exploitation to unlock her full game potential. Experiment with her builds and counters to adapt to different opposition teams' compositions and enemy picks.
